QNX, originally known as "QUNIX", was released in 1982 by a company then known as Quantum Software Systems. In the late 1980s, QNX was beginning to be redesigned into QNX 4, an operating system more closely following the POSIX model and thus to be more compatible. However, QNX did not get its GUI, the "Photon" microGUI, until the mid 1990s.
So, technically, the 1989 demo floppy was not an advertisement for a GUI, nor did it really have a GUI itself (it technically does, but it's a text-based GUI similar to DeskMate). In the interest of historical preservation I am including these screenshots, also because the demo is quite powerful.
The demo floppy can be downloaded from here, and will run under Virtual PC (at least it did for me) despite being designed for an 8088. It is a single 360k floppy image, and has nothing to do with DOS or a DOS filesystem.

This is the splash screen.

Here is the extent of the GUI. I will talk about the games in a bit. The whole purpose of the demo disk is to show off various aspects of QNX and to basically act as a sales pitch.

Selecting items usually brings up sub-menus, which look like this. There is a lot that this demo disk covers. Amazing that it fits on a 360k floppy! |
