It's long past time to take another look at ReactOS, the open-source project that attempts to be a re-implementation of Windows NT.

A list of (major, at least) things that have changed since last time:

  • A build string now appears on the desktop, like with Windows betas.
  • There is now a Japanese translation.
  • Themes support!
  • AHCI support.
  • Ability to install to and boot from BTRFS volumes in addition to FAT32.
  • Several command-line improvements.

It is important, of course, to note that the very much pre-alpha nature of ReactOS means it's nowhere near ready to go yet. Several things are still missing, most notably NTFS writing support.

ReactOS 0.4.14 Partition types
Here you can see that you now get a choice to install on BTRFS partitions. I didn't try it, though.

ReactOS 0.4.14 Splash
The ReactOS splash screen, which hasn't changed.

ReactOS 0.4.14 Install type   ReactOS 0.4.14 Theme selection
A couple more new questions during the install process.

ReactOS 0.4.14 Desktop
The default ReactOS desktop (well, almost default, I did install the VBox guest additions and the correct audio driver), which other than the build text is basically unchanged.

ReactOS 0.4.14 About
The ReactOS about screen.
