Sun Solaris 10 is the last release of Sun Microsystems' operating system package. Solaris is a server and workstation OS designed to run on Sun-produced hardware, and primarily enjoys success as a server OS for high-scale, often mission-critical, server software.

This logon screen applies for both the CDE and JDS environments, which can be changed between under the options menu.
No, Solaris is not running on an actual Sparcstation 20, I just called it that for laughs and giggles.

When you start up CDE, it tells you that it has been deprecated and will be removed, so you should move over to the Java Desktop System. Nevertheless, it still allows you to start up to it.

This is what the CDE desktop looks like.
That bar at the bottom contain application icons, with menus that are opened by clicking the arrow. Those menus contain related options, and will remain open until the arrow is clicked again or the close button on the menu is pressed. Each menu can also be torn off and turned into a free floating window. However, the standard way of opening applications is through a right-click desktop menu.
File icons may not be placed on the desktop, but shortcuts can.

As shown here, each individual desktop, or "workspace", can have it's own background.

And of course, the about window that most operating systems have nowadays.

The style manager provides ways CDE can be customized, including desktop fonts, colors, backgrounds and screensavers.
