For web browsing, BeOS bundles "NetPositive". There are versions of Firefox designed for BeOS that may also still work.

While it is important to note that BeOS is not related to UNIX in any way, it does have a shell system that functions almost identically to that found in various UNIX and Linux distributions, despite being run on what is basically an MS-DOS subsystem (or the Macintosh, which has no command line interface!).

Shutting down BeOS.
Conclusion: BeOS is a stunningly powerful operating system for its time. It comes bundled with a whole bunch of useful applications right out of the box. It's too bad they weren't competitive enough. |
